Roaring Creek Conservation Association Meeting Minutes: September 20, 2007 7 PM/Southern Columbia High School–Room 102 Attendance: Bob Rush; Kristen Vitkauskas; Wayne Petro; Cathy Haffner; Joan Sattler; Joe and Winnie McNelis; Wayne Kashner; Vanessa Petro; Dave Ernest; Tom Spock. Minutes: I. Reading of minutes from August 16, 2007 meeting/Tom Spock. II. Treasurer’s Report/Wayne Petro. Wayne P. Noted one expense for past month–payment for ice cream during presentation at Rohrbach’s Orchard last month–ending balance $1817.74 from past balance of $1837.74. III. Old Business A. Update on By-Law adjustment. Tom will complete updates as soon as his computer is up and running after recent storm damage. B. Stormwater Project Intro by Bob, follow-up by Kristen. Kristen noted that she is still speaking to school and Columbia County officials about the project. School officials are concerned with possible cost (to district) of any project. Also, that any plans for project have more detailed info/specifics depending on scope of project. All present noted it might be best to start with smaller rain garden and/or educational project. Kris is also working with school officials to apply for grant money for the project. C. Signs and Adopt-A-Highway Bob noted that he is still making contacts regarding the signage, still running into beaurocratic red-tape. Bob will continue to contact PenDot, as well as local and county politicians. Adopt-A-Highway mostly go-ahead; specific length of highway still to be determined, likely along Rte. 42 through Weiser State Forest Area. There will have to be a minimum # of clean-ups. Also, Bob added that PA Cleanways will assist smaller townships to do roadway clean-ups. D. 501c Application Bob noted that paperwork has been completed, RCVCA is now incorporated. E. Brochure Cathy has been working on the brochure/consulting with staff from SEDA-COG. Presentation will likely be done at a meeting in future to discuss the brochure and come up with final layout. All present were asked to get any photos together to possibly use in the design of the document. F. Monitoring Workshop. Bob and Cathy thanked all who were present for the first training. Trainees were given hands-on instruction by Marty Friday/DEP. Finalized training is to be held October 1, 2007, 5 PM at stream nearby Jerome and MaryAnn Petro’s home. Additional workshop will be held, along with discussion about Sites/contacts and data collection. G. Shirts w/logo Bob noted that vendor working on the shirts is busy at Bloomsburg Fair, will work to get shirts completed as time allows. H. Fair Stand Bob and Cathy noted that info regarding RCVCA will be on display at Columbia County Conservation District stand–anyone wishing to help at stand was encouraged to stop by the stand. I. Display Board Cathy and Kristen are still looking at possible options for this purchase/will update. J. Coldwater Conservation Plan Cathy noted that volunteer monitoring for CCP should be discussed within the next month to coordinate evaluation for fall season, to be completed by November. Also, the importance to develop and coordinate the volunteers as well as contact landowners of sites, DCNR, Southern HS personnel, Jerome and Mary Ann Petro. K. ‘Catch-Phrase’ Still working on this; all present encouraged to still think about possible slogans. IV. New Business A. Speakers Bob introduced the topic. Due to training for monitoring, no speaker for month of October meeting. All present were encouraged to think about potential speakers for upcoming meetings. B. Cathy and Bob noted that Trout Unlimited would be having upcoming annual meeting for local chapter. Group discussed giving donation for program for the event. Members present voted ‘yes’ to have 1/3 page ad for program–Bob asked for motion to approve; 1st by Kristen, 2nd by Mark. C. Bob noted that PA Cleanways would be doing clean-up on outskirts of Mt. Carmel, anyone interested could attend to view or participate. Bob called for motion to end meeting; 1st by Mark, 2nd by Wayne Kashner.
