Meeting minutes from September 14, 2005
Meeting place: Southern High School, Kristen Vitkauskas’ classroom
Attendees: Kristen Vitkauskas, Mary Wagner, Mark Diebler, MaryAnn Bierly, Wayne Petro, Anatole Scaun, Carl Miller, Cathy Haffner
Announcements: Kristen Vitkauskas will be taking her class to ‘Whale Back’, a geologic formation, on Thursday, September 22nd. They will be leaving from the High School at 8 am. Those interested in joining the adventure will have to follow the bus in their own vehicle. Carpooling is preferable. It takes approximately 40 minutes to get to whale back from the high school, so be prepared with water and a snack/lunch. Contact Kristen for more info (kvitkauskas@scolumbiasd.k12.pa.us)
The Columbia County Conservation District will have an exhibit at the Bloomsburg Fair that highlights watersheds and watershed groups in the county. Be sure to check it out!
Minutes: This was the second organizational meeting for the formation of a watershed group in the Roaring Creek drainage basin.
The bulk of the meeting focused on deciding on a name for the group and constructing a draft mission statement.
The name of the group is proposed to be called “Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association”, RCVCA for short.
Mark Diebler drafted a mission statement from our discussion at the first meeting: “The (group name) is a group of residents interested in retaining the rural character of the area, conserving its natural resources and promoting the watershed’s rich natural heritage.”
We reworked Mark’s statement to read: “The Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association seeks to conserve the natural resources of the basin and its rich culture.” This is a work in progress, so please come to our next meeting with your suggestions.
Next meeting time and place: Southern Area High School, Tuesday, October 18, 7 pm.
We will likely post an announcement in the paper for the next meeting.
