Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association Meeting Minutes: October 18, 2007 7 PM/Southern Columbia High School Attendance: Kristen and Emily Vitkauskas; Wayne Petro; Wayne Kashner; Cathy Haffner; Steve Rier; Mary Ellen Beaver; Joe and Winnie McNelis; Carl Miller; Tom Spock.
Call to order by Vice President Kristen Vitkaukas, President Bob Rush not available for meeting. Reading of September 20, 2007 meeting minutes, Tom Spock. Minutes were approved without revisions. Treasurer’s report by Wayne Petro–Expenditure’s for the last month; $25 to Trout Unlimited for ad in program. Ending balance in account: $1792.74. Krsiten called to approve; 1st Wayne P., 2nd Joe. Old Business 1. Stream monitoring. Kristen noted that she and others have been getting info packets together for landowners, also that landowners have been contacted to discuss upcoming monitoring. Some sites have already been monitored, many of the landowners have already been contacted. 2. Rain garden/on-site project at SCA. Kristen noted that she spoke to school personnel about the project–there was approval to have an area placed in rain garden, although school officials would like to give approval of all plans and location. Kris noted that good ‘first’ project would be rain garden by the Elementary School entrance. It was noted that it would be good to get a sign noting the (eventual) completed project is affiliated with RCVCA. Also, to have an educational component, to denote the rain garden as an ongoing corrective project to take care of run-off from the parking lot areas. 3. Growing Greener Grant. Intro by Kristen, follow-up by Cathy. Cathy noted that work continues generating the brochure for the association. First draft has been completed, including 3-D topo map. Also, that a display board has been selected and ordered with funds from the G.G. grant. 4. 501c/incorporation. Carl noted that RCVCA is listed on PA website of incorporated organizations, as well as in PA Legal Gazette. Carl is doing follow-up to file w/PA IRS. 5. By-Law adjustment. Tom will finish (hopefully) by next meeting. 6. Slogan ideas. Kristen distributed hand-out with some slogans, encouraged all present to identify if they had any new ideas for slogans. 7. Speakers. All present discussed potential speakers for upcoming meetings. Blair Carbaugh will present about restoration of the American Chestnut. Blair is a member of The PA Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation/DCNR Bureau of Forestry Stewardship Volunteer. 8. Chesepeake Bay Water Forum. Kristen and Cathy attended this program recently. They talked about the program. Added that RCVCA could be enrolled for on-line forum keeping all watershed groups in PA (and other areas) in touch with each other. Kristen called for motion to adjourn meeting; 1st by Wayne K., 2nd by Tom. Next meeting to be held Thursday November 15, 2007, 7 PM at Southern Columbia H.S. Room 102.
