ROARINGCREEKVALLEY CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION

Minutes of May 21, 2009 Monthly Meeting

 

President Wayne Petro called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.  The meeting was held at the Southern High School in Room 102.

The normal order of business was suspended in order that our guest speaker, Mary Jo Gibson could give her presentation.

Mary Jo Gibson, Penn State Master Gardener, ColumbiaCounty, gave a talk on the importance of pollinators, provided information on the Great Sunflower Project and encouraged our participation in this project.

The Secretary’s report was approved as read.

The Treasurer’s report showed a balanced of $2495.52.

 

Unfinished Business:

Dan Brassington reported that the state forest trail logbook project has one logbook box (near the Route 54 parking area) in place. The second one is on hold until after the Route 42 parking area is completed.

Mr. Brassington also reported that the ‘Hellbender Half Marathon & 5K Run’ will be held on August 23, 2009 beginning on or about 8:30 am.  Donations (i.e., water, etc), volunteers and tee-shirts are among the issues that will need to be worked through.

Agreement was reached that the boundary signs would be professionally reviewed to ensure the design is balanced.

Cathy Haffner reported that the Association was not selected to receive a WREN grant.  There were 62 applications and 11 were projects were funded.

Kristen Vitkauskas noted the Association will participate in the bacteria monitoring project.  More information is forthcoming.

 

New Business

A communication was received from ColumbiaCounty thanking the Association for being a sponsor of the Susquehanna Valley Envirothon.
