Meeting minutes: May 18, 2006
7 PM/Southern Columbia High School–Room 102
Attendance: Bob Rush; Carl Miller; Kristen Vitkauskas; Mark Deibler; Cathy Haffner; Steve Rier; Mary Wagner; Stephanie Singer; David Cooper; Mary Kutzer; Mary Ellen Beaver; Robert Martynowich; Martin and Dylan Friday; Corey Getty; Wayne Petro; Tom Spock.
Minutes:
I. Presentation: ‘Stream Assessment in the Roaring Creek Watershed’ By–Martin Friday, PA DEP Water Management.
II. Reading of April meeting minutes (Tom Spock).
III. Old Business A. Logo Bob did intro to paper ballot/qualified members of the Association vote to determine design to be used for the RCVCA. Option #5 chosen by majority. Bob asked for motion to accept logo design–Mark Deibler gave motion, second motion given by David Cooper. B. Treasurer’s report Bob introduced the report, Carl Miller gave accounting of number of current members, as well as available balance in the RCVCA account. C. Stream clean-up Bob noted event was success/thanked all who participated. Cathy Haffner gave additional info about the clean-up. Bob added thank you letters were sent to First Columbia and Union National Banks to offer ‘thanks’ for monetary donations for the event. D. Website Bob encouraged all in attendance to check on site for regular updated info.
IV. New Business
A. Grant Update Kristen Vitkauskas noted that she applied for/received approval for $3,000 ‘mini’ grant. Application was accepted via PA Dept. of Education/Governor’s School grant, Partners named on the grant are: Southern Columbia School District, DCNR, and Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association. Grant funds will be used to study pH in the watershed/forestland, purchase items necessary to conduct said study. Mark asked about the basis for the study–will it be educational–based study. Kristen noted that 5 ‘sets’ as guidelines can be developed into various subsets as the study develops. B. Additional grant Steve Rier noted that he applied for/received approval for grant via Degenstein Foundation. Steve explained funding will be used to hire intern to help compile findings related to various evaluations and research conducted within the watershed. C. Ideas for upcoming meetings Robert ‘Marty’ Martynowich/DCNR Forester, agreed t ogive presentation at June Meeting–topic will be ‘Alien Invasions’ coupled with walk along nature trail near school. Mark agreed to give presentation within boundaries of watershed for July meeting. D. Mark encouraged those present to make utilize ‘Public Use’ maps and documents from DCNR/Bureau of Forestry. E. Bob introduced/Cathy added additional info about dedication of Audenreid Treatment System, a stream reclamation project organized by Catawissa Creek Restoration Associa. Ceremony will be held June 17, 2006. F. Wayne Petro suggested RCVCA would have the opportunity to sell water at historic baseball game, sponsored by the Roaring Creek Valley and Catawissa Historical Society, to be in held on July 29, 2006. G. Postage/meeting reminder cards Bob noted postage for meeting reminder cards would have to be approved, Called for motion/Mary Ellen Beaver gave motion, second by Mark. H. Bob noted that next meeting to be held same location, June 16, 2006 . Bob asked for motion to end meeting. Kristen gave motion, second by Wayne, Bob adjourned meeting.
