Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association Meeting
Present: Bob Rush; Kristen Vitkauskas; Carl Miller; Cathy Haffner; Steve Rier; Wayne Petro; David Cooper; Dave Ernest; Robert Martynowych; Mark Deibler; Tom Spock.
Meeting Called to order by Bob Rush.
Minutes of last meeting read.
Old Business
1. Carl Miller gave Treasurer’s report–checking account has been opened for the association, number of current memberships. 2. Suggested committees. Administration and business committees–as well as education and monitoring sections. –use other conservation associations for ideas as well as original concepts. 3. Adjustment of Bylaws. To specify duties of officers, along with goals/duties of various committees. 4. Cathy Haffner–Growing Greener Grant. Cathy noted that submission for grant has been placed. Start-up funds from the grant are expected to be used for: Postage for mailings; website; logo design; other expenses to be determined as financial needs arise (ie insurance for the association).
New Business
1. Website Bob reminded everyone that the Association website is up and running. Bob will be the ‘go to’ contact person for the site at this time. Also–individual e-mail accounts will be made available to all officers via the site. Bob reminded all to use photographic expertise to add to eventual photo site to be included. The goal of the site is to tell the web ‘Who we are’. Was noted that general mailings could be to member list via the account. 2. Next steps The group discussed possible presenters for future meetings–Cathy Haffner agreed to do ‘Masterwell-owner’ presentation. Community projects. Bob introduced the topic–Kristen suggested and gave details about ‘Great PA Cleanup’. The group decided this would be a good opportunity to do something to help the environment. Clean-up with-in the watershed was discussed. Mark Deibler noted that a ‘Special Projects permit’ would be needed for the activity. Clean-up will be held on April 22, 2006 circa 9:00 AM. Caution will have to be used, as youth turkey will be held same day. Association members will look into securing orange vests/bags for refuse, possibly some refreshments, but advising attendees to pack own lunch. Also–monitoring sites along various streams/waterways within the watershed as a way to do a community service as well as perform a duty relevant to objective of the association.
Items for ‘Good of the Order’.
The group discussed benefits of membership. Window decals; t-shirts; membership cards and/or certificates. Wayne Petro noted that RCV Historical Society will be meeting next Saturday (3-25) for Trail maintenance at the Rte. 54 gate of the state game land. All are welcome to attend the event–local Boy scouts will provide labor for the event along with historical society members. Wayne added that RCV Historical Society will have another ‘historic baseball game’ this year–to be held on July 29, 2006. Bob asked for motion to end meeting. Kristen gave motion to end meeting/second by Bob. Next meeting to be held April 20, 2006 at 7:00 PM.
