Roaring Creek Conservation Association Meeting minutes: June 21, 2007 7 PM Southern Columbia High School–Room 102 Attendance: Bob Rush; Kristen Vitkauskas; Wayne Petro; Cathy Haffner; Steve Rier; Mark Deibler; Wayne Kashner; Carl Miller; Joe and Winnie McNelis; Joan Sattler; Mary Ellen Beaver; Mary Wagner; Tom O’Donnell; Jean Golomb; Tom Spock.
I. Call to order/Bob Rush.
II. Coldwater Conservation Plan Introduction by Bob, follow-up by Cathy. Cathy gave presentation regarding CCP. She gave an overview of Coldwater Heritage Partnership, noting RCVCA received $4800 to complete the Plan. The scope of work will include: Data collection; Mapping; Public Participation; and Action Plan. Also included was time line implementing Plan. Cathy added that Martin Friday would be available in late summer to do training on stream monitoring–some ideas include map evaluation to determine numerous sites with areas of diversity (eg. farms vs forest).
III. Presentation by Tom O’Donnell/RETTEW. Tom described facets of RETTEW–provides wide range of engineering and related consulting services working closely with watershed groups.
IV. Reading of minutes from May meeting/Tom Spock.
V. Treasurer’s Report/Wayne Petro. Wayne reported 3 deposits since last month, ending balance of $1817.74.
VI. Old Business. A. Update on by-law adjustments. Staff will send document to Tom so edits can be made as discussed previously. B. Speakers. All present encouraged to consider possibilities for speakers. Cathy suggested possible speaker from Fish and Boat Commission. For July meeting (to be held at Weiser State Forest), mark Deibler will be speaker. For August meeting (to be held at Rohrbach’s Farm Market), speakers will be Renee Carey and Ed Lease. Tentatively, no speaker for September meeting, possible presenter in October to speak about Bats in PA. C. Stormwater Project. Kristen noted that she will work on presentation, to be made at ‘Facilities’ meeting at the school district. After approval at meeting, project could be further developed. D. Signs and Adopt-A-Highway. Bob noted that he has on-going contact with PenDot to address this project. Area along Route 42 from Mystic Mountain to Aristes available, paperwork will be sent to Bob for RCVCA to adopt this section of highway. For signage, board members and any other interested people can be present for an upcoming meeting–map will be evaluated for potential sign placement, and size of signs–info which will be submitted to regional PenDot office in Montoursville. Two signs can be placed. E. 501c Application. Carl noted that he completed the application, was sent to be processed, and should be back within two weeks for signatures/final approval. Bob thanked Carl for his work on the application. F. Logo. Bob noted that once the group describes what medium to use for the logo on clothing, the printer will work with the group on what is needed. G. Brochure. Intro by Bob, follow-up by Cathy. Cathy noted money is available from Growing Greener Grant for developing the brochure. All present were encouraged to start thinking about possible options for the brochure.
VII. New Business. A. Bob noted there will be a presentation by Columbia County Conservation District in July regarding no-till farming. Anyone interested in attending should contact the district office. B. Cathy noted Lower North Branch Watershed Forum will be held August 13, 2007 5-7 PM, to be held at Kocher Park, near Lightstreet. C. PA Cleanways. Bob noted the group will be doing clean-up by Catawissa Boat Club on July 6, 2007 at 8 AM, if anyone would like to see how clean-up is done. D. Mark noted Fish and Boat Commission recently finished report about fishery in the Roaring Creek tract of Weiser State Forest. Bob called for motion to adjourn meeting. 1st by Wayne K., 2nd by Kristen. Next meeting to be held at Weiser State Forest–Roaring Creek tract, July 19, 2007, 6-8 PM.
