Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association Meeting minutes: June 15, 2006 7 PM Southern Columbia High School–Room 102/Nature Trail
Attendance: Bob and Jean Rush; Carl Miller; Kristen and Emily Vitkauskas; Cathy Haffner; Wayne Petro; Robert ‘Marty’ Martynowych; Joe and Winnie McNellis; Tom Spock.
I. Presentation: R. Martynowych/DCNR Forester–Alien Invasions! How to Identify and Control non-invasive/invasive species.
II. Call to order/Bob Rush.
III. Reading of May meeting minutes/Tom Spock.
IV. Treasurer’s report/Carl Miller. Bob introduced the report/Carl noted expenditures of $100.01/ending balance $624.24 also, income, four new membership dues not yet deposited.
V. Old business
A. Letter regarding ‘Growing Greener Fund’ diversions sent to Rep.’s Millard and Belfanti and Senator Gordner. 1. Reply letters from Sen. Gordner and Rep. Belfanti.
B. Logo Bob introduced the topic–noted possibility of contacting printer/manufacturer for T-shirts/hats/patches, etc., with Association logo. All present were advised to seek estimates for the job.
VI. New Business
A. Expedition Susquehanna Watershed Expo–to be held 7-1-06/4-7 PM at Shikellamy State Park–Marina Area.. Bob introduced the topic, Cathy gave more info–Association will have a display table. Also present at the Expo–Fishing Creek and Catawissa Creek Associations.
B. Susquehanna River Conference–to be held 9-23-06, all day at Bucknell University. Topic introduced by Bob, Cathy gave additional info. $10 registration fee/registration required–those interested in attending the event are advised to contact Cathy.
C. Montour County Watershed Bob and Cathy attended meeting sponsored by Montour Co., addressed possible legislation/methods to problem-solve ways to correct severe damage due to storm-water run-off.
VII. Other business A. Western Pennsylvania Watershed Program Bob introduced the topic, Cathy gave additional commentary. The Program is looking to get involved with conservation-related groups in the state of PA. Possible resource for grants/other assistance for RCVCA. Members were encouraged to check out this website.
B. Water for ‘Field of Our Own’ historical baseball game. Wayne noted the game is to be held 7-29-06/circa noon to 6 PM. Water can be delivered to game site via Tulpehocken Water Company. Volunteers will be needed to provide coolers/sell water at the event. The matter will be discussed in greater detail at next meeting.
C. Next meeting. Bob noted that next meeting would be held on 7-20-06/location to be local DCNR Forestland. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to meet at Rte. 54 parking lot, at 6 PM. Also planned–picnic/get-together after presentation by DCNR staffer, Mark Deibler. Topic will be ‘History of the Watershed’.
Bob asked for motion to end the meeting. Kristen gave motion, second by Wayne, Bob adjourned the meeting.
