Meeting place: Southern Columbia Area High School, Kristen Vitkauskas’ classroom

Attendees: Neil Clossen, Mark Diebler, Mike Yeager, Mary Ann Haladay-Bierly, Lon Morris, Laurie Morris, Dan Myers, Janice Myers, Tom Fetterman, April Fetterman, Barbara Prescott, David Prescott, Mary Ellen Beaver, Wayne Petro, Ron Wittenrich, Aaron Bierly, Dave Ernest, Ronald Rohrbach, Mike Fetterman, Stephanie Singer, Kristen Vitkauskas, Cathy Haffner

This was the first organizational meeting for the formation of a watershed organizationfor Roaring Creek
.
Participants introduced themselves and identified where they live in the watershed.

Cathy Haffner welcomed everyone to the meeting and explained that this first meeting was designed to be a brainstorming session of concerns, interests, etc. in the watershed.

Kristen Vitkauskas showed a PowerPoint presentation of what she does with her student watershed group and expressed a need for an ‘adult’ group (kids are welcome, too!) to promote conservation in the watershed
.
Following this presentation, the group openly discussed changes they’ve noticed in the watershed over time, voiced concerns, and offered suggestions for the group’s focus. Items mentioned included: concern about chemicals/nutrients in the water from runoff, need for water quality monitoring, certain streams are negatively changing in a short period of time, want to preserve and protect the area for future generations, local municipalities’ role in zoning and development, and preserving rural character of the watershed.

The group decided that monthly meetings work best and 7 p.m. is a good meeting time.

The next meeting was set for Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 7 p.m., Southern Columbia High School
.
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
