ROARING CREEK VALLEY CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION

Minutes of April 15, 2010 Monthly Meeting

The normal order of business was suspended for a presentation on ‘The Impact of White-Nose Syndrome on Local Bat Species’. Bucknell University graduate students Laura Grieneisen and Sarah Brownlee spoke on the effects of WSN on Pennsylvania’s nine bat species.  Included in the talk were some of the studies that are being performed to learn about WSN, means that may be aiding the spread of WSN and the impact of the syndrome on the bat population as well as the impact of WSN on human recreation.  The lecture was well received by the members as evidenced by the numerous questions that ensued.

The business meeting was called to order by Vice President Kristen Vitkauskas at the Southern High School in Room 102.

The March minutes were read and accepted.

The Treasurer’s report showed a balance of $5532.47.

Committee Reports:

Hellbender Marathon Chair Dan Brassington requested the race committee meet at 6:00 pm prior to the May 20 meeting.

Cathy Haffner reported that the stream bank stabilization project along Roaring Creek’s South Branch will be implemented during the week of May 17, 2010, weather permitting, ‘and the creek don’t rise’.  Interested Association members are encouraged to participate. A motion was made by Ralph Evans to provide beverages for this project at a cost not to exceed $50.00.  The motion was seconded by Dan Brassington and was passed by the membership.

The members were reminded of the ‘Great PA Cleanup’ activities on April 17 along Route 42 in the Weiser State Forest, Roaring Creek Tract.

New Business:
